Pilates is a very famous fitness program followed by millions of people around the world. This form of fitness is widely embraced by millions of followers from all over the world. Attention to detail becomes a priority in Pilates and is accompanied by slow movements. This is a regime that bases its results on how well you performed as opposed to how much you have done.

Pilates students must realize that it is the mind that holds the power to control every motion of the body. The goal of every student is an overwhelming desire to improve them self, both in how they appear and their wellbeing. So, it should be understood that with Pilates, increasing body mass is not the issue here.

By mastering the disciplines of the mind, the body will in turn react by moving freely and accurately. Pilates can be practice easily with or without machines. Initially it only starts with some basic moves and the whole focus of the system is centered on these main points - centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing, and flowing movement.

It is crucial to follow exactly the moves as defined by the instructor as every little action in Pilates has its own meaning. Today, this form of fitness program has become very popular as people turn to this program to help achieve better health and a more peaceful state of mind. With its focus on achieving inner balance and maintaining equilibrium is very much in demand during these turbulent times. This can be practiced through a DVD instructional video from the comforts of your own home.

Pilates machines are very affordable as well and you can use them to supplement your fitness program. There are types of exercises addressing to pregnant women and even to children. At the beginning its great movements were used for recovering dancers' injuries and even one of the greatest revolutionary figure in Pilates, Moira Merrithew, became familiar to this concept only after suffering an accident. She later met Romana Kryzanawska who is one of Joseph Pilates' disciples. Moira was introduced to Pilates by Romana, and later Moira she founded Stott Pilates to expand this sport worldwide under her own brand.

To conclude with, Pilates greatly improved the idea of sculpting the body and had changed step by step the general perception on sport. Finally people realize that the goal of sports is not to win, but to create a new level of health and happiness that anyone can enjoy without the pressure of being better than the next person. It all boils down to reaching inner equilibrium and a better quality of life.
